blog post 2: scenario 4

For Scenario 4, I worked with two protected areas in the Coronado National Forest to find the best corridor for potential wildlife movement between them. Since the layers were already prepared, I reclassified the cost inputs so they were on the same scale and applied the provided weights to build a cost surface. I ran the Cost Distance tool for each source area and used the Corridor tool to combine the results.

The final corridor map highlights a range of possible low-cost routes instead of just one line. I had planned to use a graduated color ramp to show the cost thresholds, but ArcGIS Pro wouldn’t let me apply it correctly. Because of that, I kept the symbology as one solid color so the corridor still stood out clearly against the basemap. Even with one color, it’s easy to see the path connecting the two areas, and this method still gives planners flexibility by showing several viable connection options rather than a single rigid path.
