For this lab I worked with a LiDAR dataset from Shenandoah National Park to make a DEM, DSM, Canopy Density raster, and a vegetation height layer. I followed the steps in ArcGIS Pro to process the LAS dataset and convert it into the different surfaces. Then I used raster math to calculate vegetation height by subtracting the DEM from the DSM. That part actually went fine. The tools worked and I got all the layers I needed.
But after that I tried to get my LiDAR scene to match the example image we were given and that’s where everything went downhill.
I spent hours trying to figure out why my scene didn’t look the same. I messed with the stretch type settings, changed the color ramp, switched between dataset and custom values, and looked through every dropdown I could find. Nothing fixed it. The values were correct and I used the same color scheme but the LiDAR points just looked off. I couldn’t even figure out where to change the point size. I searched the Appearance tab and it wasn’t there. I opened every property menu and even checked the layer properties but still couldn’t get it right.
At a certain point I gave up. I had already finished the analysis and made the correct layers so I stopped stressing about the appearance. I tried everything I could but the symbology just wasn’t cooperating. It looked close enough and I had the right elevation range so I moved on.
The main part of the lab worked. The part after that? Not so much. I tried. That’s all I’ve got.
