Lab 4:Spatial Enhancement, Multispectral Data, and Band Indices

This week in lab we completed 7 different exercises using EDRAS and ArcGIS Pro. 1. download data 2.Spatial Enhancement 3.Image Histograms 4.Using Spectral Characteristics 5.Band Ratios – Creating Indices 6.Examining Layer Information 7.Deliverable Assignment. Exercises 1-6 were the building blocks we had to learn in order to compete number 7.  For exercise 7, we had to identify 3 features using the requirements given and create a map of them.

The first feature identified was a body of water displayed using TM False natural color. The waterbody was located using the histogram and inquire cursor to look for a spike in pixels 12-18 in layer-4. This was all the body of waters on the original map, but I choose this one because it was small and TM false color made the vegetation a light green and the water a dark blue, almost black color and it stood out. I used the inquire box, then the subset raster, and the import data to create the map. I also made sure to include a legend so that the viewer knows what color went with what band. Finally, I added the essential map elements and a description of what is being observed.
Feature 2 was snowcapped mountains I identified by using the histogram and  inquire cursor to identify a small spike in layers1-4 at pixel value 200 and  a big spike in layer 5-6 at pixel value 9-11. I also observed the pattern for elevation and identified mountains. I used TM True color because it's what the naked eye would notice and it showed off the patterns in the elevation and made the snow a bright white. I also made sure to include a legend so that the viewer knows what color went with what band. Finally, I added the essential map elements and a description of what is being observed.
Feature 3 was shallow water that was a light blue/ hazy blue.  I identified by using the histogram and  inquire cursor to identify brightness value. layers 1-3 were brighter than normal, layer 4 somewhat brighter, and layer 5 and 6 had no change. I used TM False Color because it really pulled out the different colors of blue and the red vegetation made a great contrast color. I also made sure to include a legend so that the viewer knows what color went with what band. Finally, I added the essential map elements and a description of what is being observed.
