This week in lab, we learned how to manipulate data in Excel in order for it to work properly in ArcMap Pro. The first thing we leaned this week was how to take degrees, minutes, and seconds and turn it into Xcoord and Ycoord. Therefore, we were able to import it to ArcMaps and it had the x and y coordinates. Finally, we learned how to project the layer into the coordinate system that allowed the points to line up with where they are actually located.
The next part of lab, we did some more data manipulation in Excel. Then, we learned how to use an address locator in order to place the points of the schools on the maps. Https://arcg.is/1rWmOG0 If you follow this link, you will find my map that I created. I symbolized the schools by what type they are because it allowed the viewer to see where the one university was located and how many of the other schools there are. While creating my map, some of the schools did not address match with the address locator. Therefore, I had to mainly plot the points by google mapping the address and looking for it on my map. This could of happened because some of the schools have an PO Box and not a physical address listed on Manatee County School District Website. Finally, I noticed one point fell outside of Manatee County and this is one that I had to manually enter. I think this is because Manatee County School district and Manatee County are not lined up 100 percent and when the address locator was created it only did the ones in Manatee County.
