Blog post 3: GIS Internship

For the GIS Tech Session, I watched the AI Extensibility session from the ESRI Developer and Technology Summit. I chose it because I’m interested in how artificial intelligence can be used in GIS projects. I learned that the Geospatial AI Platform lets you connect your own custom AI models, not just the ones built into ArcGIS. You can also run a custom “AI skill” and connect it with an ArcGIS AI skill in the same workflow. I thought it was really cool how this could be used in real projects like classifying land cover or predicting hazards such as floods and fires.

At my internship with St. Tammany Parish, I’ve been learning how to work with old FEMA floodplain data, which can be tricky, but I’m getting more comfortable with it every day. I’m hoping this experience helps me move toward a full-time job when my internship ends.

I also created my LinkedIn profile for the first time. I added my internship, school experience, and a few GIS skills. I still need to get a professional photo taken, but it feels good to finally have a place to share what I’ve been learning.
